/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – One of the final races of the 2024 triathlon season, the sold-out Challenge Florianópolis, will take place on Sunday, 24 November, on the scenic coastline of Santa Catarina in Brazil. The event brings together a strong field of Brazilian and American athletes alongside over 1,100 age groupers, promising exciting competition in both the men’s and women’s races.
In the men’s race, Brazil’s Andre Lopes leads the field with years of middle-distance experience since 2018, making him a favourite to win on home soil. His closest challenger is Reinaldo Colucci, who has enjoyed a successful season with multiple podium finishes and continues to show strong form after his fifth-place finish at Challenge Davos last year. Also racing is Messias Dos Santos (BRA), who finished sixth at Challenge Peguera Mallorca in 2021 and will be looking to make his mark against these seasoned competitors.
The women’s race will feature a mix of experience and emerging talent. Olympian Vittoria Lopes, who recently transitioned to middle-distance racing and already secured a silver medal this year, is looking to make an impact in her second race at this distance. Pamella Oliveira, the 2022 Challenge Florianópolis champion, brings her extensive middle-distance experience and a proven ability to perform under pressure. Rachel Olson, the American who finished second last year, adds an international challenge and will aim to improve on her previous result.
Also known as the ‘Magic Island’, Florianópolis is hope to one of Brazil’s most beautiful coastlines with over 100 beaches. The swim takes place at sunrise from the popular Jurerê Internacional beach, in calm waters with a pleasant temperature. The challenging bike course starts on the coast, entering the interior of the island, passing through some traditional tourist spots. Back to the beach for the lively and beautiful run through the streets of Jurerê Internacional, before an amazing finish line with lots of vibrant music and entertainment.
The race starts at 5:50 am local time on Sunday, with live timing and updates available at www.challenge-family.live. For more information, visit www.challenge-brazil.com.
