April 29, 2024, Brooklyn, New York /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – An event record 21,718 runners finished the NYCRUNS Brooklyn Half Marathon on Sunday, April 28, making it one of the largest half marathons in the nation. The race, which crowned men’s, women’s, and non-binary champions, featured a one-of-a-kind course running along many of Brooklyn’s most iconic locations.
“What an amazing day for Brooklyn,” said Steve Lastoe, founder and CEO of NYCRUNS, the Brooklyn-based organization that produces the event. “You could feel the energy along the course. From the buzz created by the big crowds cheering along Flatbush Avenue, to local businesses in Park Slope bustling with activity, to the over 21,000 runners who reached their finish line dreams, Brooklyn came together for a record-setting day.”
The 2024 NYCRUNS Brooklyn Half Marathon featured hundreds of charity runners, led by the event’s Signature Charity Partner, NYU Langone Health, whose 150 runners raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help end cancer disparities in Brooklyn.
An inspiring group of adaptive runners from Achilles International started the race in handcycles and pushrim wheelchairs led by Jessica Hayon of Manhattan, who was the first to cross the Prospect Park finish line in a time of 1:07:11. Winners of the Open Division were Bryan Morseman of Bath, NY (Non-Binary Division) in 1:12:51, Hannah Rowe of Boston, MA (Women’s Division) in 1:16:11, and Aaron Gruen of Providence, RI (Men’s Division) in 1:05:54.
The 13.1-mile race started in hip North Brooklyn and headed along the East River waterfront, under the Williamsburg, Manhattan, and Brooklyn Bridges, while delivering eye popping views of Manhattan. Runners then made their way up the historic concourses of Fulton Street & Flatbush Avenues before passing through Grand Army Plaza and finishing in Prospect Park.
Entries are now being accepted for the 2025 NYCRUNS Brooklyn Half Marathon, which will take place on April 27, 2025. Early bird pricing is currently available through May 6, 2024.
