Dow Named Official Sustainability Partner of the Louisiana Marathon

January 10, 2025

Joining Forces with Abita Beer and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United for Enhanced Recycling Efforts

BATON ROUGE, LA. (January 10, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Louisiana Marathon is proud to announce Dow as its Official Sustainability Partner for the upcoming race weekend, uniting with Abita Beer and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United to amplify recycling efforts and promote environmental responsibility. This collaborative partnership will ensure comprehensive recycling of aluminum cans and plastic bottles generated throughout the event.

Dow will provide clearly branded recycling receptacles throughout the marathon venue, encouraging both runners and spectators to properly dispose of recyclable materials. This initiative aims to minimize the event’s environmental footprint and raise awareness about the importance of recycling. Refreshments from both Abita Beer and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United, including Abita’s canned beers and Coca-Cola products such as Dasani, Powerade, Core Power, and Coca-Cola brand beverages, will be recyclable at these designated stations.

“We are thrilled to partner with Dow, a company that shares our dedication to sustainability,” said Mike Wattigny, Marketing Director of the Louisiana Marathon. “By joining forces with both Abita Beer and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United, we are creating a powerful coalition dedicated to minimizing our environmental impact and promoting responsible waste management.”

Abita Beer, the Official Craft Beer of the Louisiana Marathon, will be serving its popular canned beers at the Visit Baton Rouge Finish Festival, providing a key opportunity for attendees to utilize the Dow recycling stations.

“We’re excited to have Abita Beer back as our Official Craft Beer,” added Wattigny. “Their commitment to sustainability, alongside the support of Dow and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United, allows us to provide a truly responsible and enjoyable experience for our participants.”

“Dow is committed to advancing a circular economy and creating a more sustainable future,” said Wes Heinlein, Louisiana Operations Site Leader. “We’re proud to partner with the Louisiana Marathon, Abita Beer, and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United to promote recycling and environmental stewardship within the local community. By providing convenient and clearly marked recycling bins for both aluminum and plastic, we hope to make it easy for everyone to participate in this important effort.”

“Abita Brewing Company is proud to be the Official Craft Beer of the Louisiana Marathon and are excited to join in the sustainability initiatives. As Louisiana’s original and largest craft brewery, we understand the importance of taking action,” said Heidi Guerra, Vice President of Marketing for Abita Brewing Company. “By encouraging responsible recycling at the Finish Festival and throughout the marathon, we can make a real difference in reducing waste and protecting our environment.”

The Louisiana Marathon encourages all participants and attendees to utilize the Dow recycling receptacles throughout the race weekend and contribute to a greener event.
