Day Three at the 2024 Pan American Track Cycling Championships

Team USA finishes day three of the Pan American Track Cycling Championships with gold medals in the Men’s Points Race, Men’s Pursuit, and Women’s Omnium.

CARSON, Calif. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – It was a rapid-fire morning on Friday, starting day three with the Men’s Sprint Qualifying, where seven riders clocked flying 200m Sprints under 10 seconds. Dalton Walters (Dallas, Texas), Evan Boone (Phoenix, Ariz.), and Jamie Alvord III (King of Prussia, Penn.) represented Team USA. Walters and Boone qualified through to the Quarter-Final, where neither won the heat needed to advance to Saturday’s Semi-Final.

Team USA’s Jennifer Valente (San Diego; TWENTY24 Pro Cycling) came to get her third gold of the week and she did exactly that. Valente swept all four Women’s Omnium events with finesse and panache, winning with a total of 175 points. Lina Marcela Hernandez Gomez of Team Colombia claimed the silver medal and Yareli Acevedo Mendoza of Team Mexico rounded out the Women’s Omnium podium with the bronze medal.

In the Men’s Pursuit, Team USA’s Anders Johnson (Huntsville, Utah) and Viggo Moore (Thurmont, Md.) clocked the first- and third-fastest times in Qualifying to advance to the Final. Adding to that victory, Johnson set a new facility record with his time of 4:13.913. Johnson battled against Chris Ernst of Team Canada in a perfectly paced pursuit where he shot through in the 4km at a time of 1:01.684 to win the gold medal. Daniel Fraser-Maraun of Team Canada would take the bronze medal.

Peter Moore (St. Paul, Minn.) represented Team USA in the Men’s Points Race where he took four Sprints and gained a lap to win the gold medal with a total of 50 points. Bryan Steve Gomez Peñaloza of Team Colombia claimed the silver and Franco Buchanan of Team Argentina would take the bronze.

The Women’s Sprint Semi-Final and Final brought the heat in the evening session. Luz Daniela Gaxiola Gonzalez of Team Mexico and Kelsey Mitchell of Team Canada battled for their Final 1-2 positions with near photo finishes on each of their Semi-Final heats. Gaxiola Gonzalez won the gold and Mitchell claimed the silver. Friday night concluded with a decider race for the bronze between Martha Bayona Pineda of Team Colombia and Lauriane Genest of Team Canada. Bayona Pineda would power through to take the bronze by 0.066.
