Countdown to Challenge Family European Season Opener in Gran Canaria

The 2025 Challenge Family European season is set to make a thrilling start with Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria on Saturday, 26 April.

/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The 2025 Challenge Family European season is set to make a thrilling start with Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria on Saturday, 26 April. The island’s only international triathlon will welcome over 40 professional athletes and more than 420 age group competitors from 29 countries, marking a powerful start to the European racing calendar.

In contention is the men’s field is Germany’s Andreas Drietz who is up alongside Olympian, Jonathan Brownlee (GBR) who last raced here in 2022, and fellow Brit, Will Draper, who comes into the race with strong momentum after his recent fourth place at Challenge Sir Bani Yas. Also fresh from the Abu Dhabi heat are Ognjen Stojanović (SER), last year’s runner-up in the Challenge Family World Bonus, and Ernie Mantell (USA).

The women’s race sees the return of defending champion Marta Lagownik (POL), looking to repeat her 2024 triumph. She will go head-to-head with Julia Skala (GER), winner of Challenge Gdańsk and a top 10 finisher at DATEV Challenge Roth, and Jean Collonge (FRA). Adding further interest to the start list is Daisy Davies (GBR), aiming to keep her winning streak alive after back-to-back victories at Challenge Wales and Challenge Vieux Boucau last year. And if it’s a battle on the run, then Katrine Græsbøell Christensen (DEN) will be one to look out for.

The event draws athletes from around the globe, with Spanish triathletes showing up in strong numbers on home soil, followed closely by a large British contingent who have consistently chosen Gran Canaria as their season-opening battleground.

For both professional and amateur triathletes, Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria is the perfect early-season hit-out. Its reputation is built on calm ocean waters, a challenging closed-road bike course, and a picturesque beachfront run, all under the island’s year-round summer sun.
