Organizers Plan Valentine’s-Inspired Matchmaking Event and Wedding Vow Renewals at the Race

 San Diego, Calif. – The Coronado Valentine’s Day 10K, 5K, and 1 Mile Fun Run, returns to Tidelands Park on Coronado Island Sunday, February 9, 2020. In addition to its famed after-party at McP’s Irish Pub and Grill, the event features Flashy Gold Heart Medals, Matching Heart T-shirts, live music, wedding vow renewals, and a matchmaking event.

Many participants run the fast and flat course of the Valentine’s Day 10K & 5K in search of a personal record. In 2020, runners will also have the chance to find love. Race bibs feature one of three different messages: ‘Available,’ ‘Taken,’ and ‘It’s Complicated.’ Event organizers implemented the matchmaking aspect to encourage socializing and celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Now in its tenth year, the Coronado Valentine’s Day 10K, 5K, and 1 Mile Fun Run is well-known for its professional race management and attention to detail. It typically fills to capacity as participants ranging from first timers to professionals flock to the USATF Certified Course for the holiday weekend.

At previous additions of the event, racers have fallen in love, met their soul mates, and rekindled old flames. Last year the race organizers added Wedding Vow Renewals to the list of race benefits. “Last year, we had 80 participants renew their vows; it was truly a special day for all who participated,” said Carrie Panek of KOZ Events. An Ordained Minister remarried the couples under a wedding arch with a backdrop of the Coronado Bridge and San Diego Bay.  “This is truly a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s weekend for couples, singles, families, and friends.”

In addition to entry and the matchmaking event, registration for the Valentine’s Day 10K, 5K, & 1-mile Fun Run includes a commemorative t-shirt, unique heart-shaped finisher medals, hand-carved cedar tiki awards for top finishers, chip timing and the event after-party at McP’s. The 1 Mile Fun Run is the first event of the day and is designed so that parents may run the 1 mile with their kids and then run the 5K or 10K afterward. Strollers are welcome to join provided they start in the back of the lineup for both the 5K and 10K runs.
