July 1, 2021

Event has raised more than $1 million to transform lives and help people with Parkinson’s live well today

Copper Mountain, Colo. — It’s all up from here! A full 79 miles, 6,500 elevation gain. Need we say more?

Coming to you on Aug. 7 2021! Registration is open now. Registration is limited to the first 3,000 riders, so don’t miss out.

The Roll Massif Copper Triangle is a Colorado classic based in the gorgeous Rocky Mountains. Starting at Copper Mountain and soaring around the incredible terrain, the remarkable cycling event is a favorite among cyclists, both competitive and recreational. Thousands of riders each year look forward to this special scenic ride.

The major upside (other than finally getting to ride with people in person again) the event has raised more than $1 million for the Davis Phinney Foundation, which uses those funds to help people with Parkinson’s Disease and their care partners live their best lives today.

“We have had a great partnership with the Davis Phinney Foundation for fifteen years and it is such a big part of what makes Copper Triangle a special event,” says Scott Olmsted, Director of Event Operations for Roll Massif. “We look forward to celebrating the work of the Foundation every year. Davis is such an inspiration both to the cycling community and for people with Parkinson’s.”

There is also registration for a virtual event for those who want to participate elsewhere and still contribute to this great cause.

This famous road ride is graced with breathtaking scenery, gorgeous tarmac and three climbs, each with a timed segment. The geography is stunning which keeps riders coming back year after year.

Over the years of the Copper Triangle’s collaboration with the Davis Phinney Foundation, the event has donated more than $1.2 million to support the foundation’s educational mission to help people with Parkinson’s live well today. Additionally, the Davis Phinney Foundation’s Team DPF is fielding a team of more than 30 fundraising riders at the Copper Triangle. With extra support from Roll Massif organizers and Team DPF staff, these riders — including several with Parkinson’s — will test themselves on the dramatic course, and raise thousands of dollars through their peer-to-peer fundraising efforts.

“We appreciate our long-standing relationship with Roll Massif and the Copper Triangle,” said Davis Phinney, Olympic medalist and founder of the Davis Phinney Foundation. “We are delighted to continue our close friendships after the hardship of 2020, and are happy to return to some normalcy in 2021. We support hundreds of thousands of people with Parkinson’s, including some of the participants in the Copper Triangle, and we wouldn’t be able to do it without the generosity of organizations like Roll Massif.”

The Copper Triangle course is a spectacular 79-mile loop that crests three Colorado mountain passes — Fremont Pass (elevation 11,318’), Tennessee Pass (elevation 10,424’) and Vail Pass (elevation 10,666’). The route incorporates three ski areas, and features historic mining outposts including Camp Hale, the training ground for the famous 10th Mountain Division. The total elevation gain for the course is 6,500 feet.

Participants can expect:

  • 2021 commemorative jersey
  • Fully stocked aid stations along the course
  • Post-ride lunch and Alpine Celebration with exhibitors and live music
  • Expo events
  • Free registration for cyclists 18 and younger
  • A chance to win dozens of valuable prizes
  • Ride credentials

About Roll MassifRoll Massif offers iconic courses from Alpine terrain to the Colorado National Monument, with a range of distances and challenges to suit most abilities. They don’t have categories: You choose your course, how you want to ride it and with whom you want to ride.

For some, just finishing the long course is an achievement. More seasoned cyclists race the timed segments. And everybody enjoys surfing the energy of the group. The sportives range from 500 to 7,000 riders, including Elephant Rock, Tour of the Moon, Wild Horse Gravel and Sunrise to Sunset.

The Davis Phinney Foundation was founded by Olympic cyclist Davis Phinney in 2004 to help people with Parkinson’s live well today. The organization’s focus is to provide programs and resources that offer inspiration, information and tools that enable people living with Parkinson’s to take action that can immediately improve their quality of life. Parkinson’s is the No. 2 neurodegenerative disease — second to Alzheimer’s — and affects more than 1 million people in the United States. The Foundation’s work impacts hundreds of thousands of individuals and families each year.

Team DPF  is  the grassroots fundraising community that supports the Davis Phinney Foundation through participation in a wide range of athletic and community-based events. With a focus on fun, personal empowerment and fundraising for Parkinson’s, Team DPF welcomes all ages and abilities. With roots in cycling, Team DPF also extends to runners, climbers, swimmers, hikers, community events and more. Team DPF is sponsored by: Primal, AltRed, SCRATCH Labs, BOCO Gear, The Sufferfest, Baker Insurance and Boulder Neurological and Spine Associates. Visit  dpf.org  to learn more.
