Colorado Classic Jersey Challenge Culminates in Leading the Charge Yellow Jersey Contest
December 2, 2020
Denver, Colo. (December 2, 2020)— For the past three months, people have logged commuter miles, climbed like mountain goats, played a guessing game of speed, and shown that the cycling stars of tomorrow are nothing short of inspiring.
Now that December is here, it’s time for the fifth and final competition of Colorado Classic’s four-month long #InspiredWeRide Jersey Campaign.
The virtual Badass, QOM, Best Young Rider and Sprinter jerseys have all been fiercely contested for and won, with the latter resulting in a two-way tie between Colorado Classic fans, Nathan M. and Gregg B., who were both just 0.1mph off in guessing Lauren Stephens’ (Team Tibco-SVB) max speed in the Test of Speed.
This means there’s only one jersey left to award: the 2020 Virtual Yellow Jersey presented by Gates Corporation.
But unlike a normal General Classification competition, the team behind the Colorado Classic isn’t looking for the fastest, the strongest or the most accomplished cyclist. Instead, they’re turning to its fans to help them generate nominations to award this prestigious jersey to someone who is “Leading the Charge” — on the bike or off.
“2020 has been a thrilling whirlwind of a ride, but a lot of good has come out of it too. New voices were elevated, people stepped up, and despite navigating the challenging situations innovative ideas sprouted everywhere. Now we want to close the year out on a high note by celebrating the HERoes and leaders among us, and we need the help of our community to recognize those who are ‘Leading the Charge’” said Lucy Diaz, CEO of RPM Events Group LLC.
The community is being asked to submit nominations for the Yellow Jersey winner. For submissions, the following criteria has been set:
- The nominee makes amazing on- or off-the-bike contributions to the cycling community
- The nominee shows continuous support and advancements of women in sport
- The nominee has an inspirational story that shows grit, determination and courage in the context of cycling or sport
Nominations will be accepted via this online form between December 2nd and 8th. Colorado Classic staff will review the submissions and present the top 3 finalists on social media December 10. Open voting will be held between December 10th and 18th, and the Yellow Jersey winner will be announced on December 21, 2020. Winner will receive two prizes: a Priority Bicycles Brilliant L Train Bicycle, equipped with a Gates Carbon Drive belt system, and a 2019 Colorado Classic Leaders jersey signed by track and time trial superstar Chloe Dygert.
Launched in September 2020, the #InspiredWeRide Jersey Campaign is the latest initiative in a series of ways the organizers behind the Colorado Classic have kept the cycling world engaged during this unusual and trying year; while furthering their mission be more than a race, and act as a movement to inspire and empower women of all ages to break the mold, and fight for their goals.
“It’s been inspiring and encouraging to see so many people support us by participating in these virtual challenges over the past three months. Despite not hosting our race this summer, we have kept our community engaged. Thank you to everyone who logged a mile in our name, sent us a note or interacted with us on social media. We’re grateful to be part of such a passionate community,” said Diaz.
