Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) Hosts Virtual 2020 Heroes of Sport Celebration With Surprise Visits Planned from Professional Athletes and Celebrities

On May 5^th, viewers around the world will have the opportunity to tune in for the live premiere of the Challenged Athletes Foundation 2020 Heroes of Sport Celebration on Facebook. Viewers will meet 2020 grant recipients and enjoy surprise visits from professional athletes, celebrities and ambassadors with words of positivity. Hosted by CAF co-founder, Bob Babbitt, Ironman Hall of Famer and USA Triathlon Hall of Famer, this uplifting program will honor athletes with permanent physical challenges who are powering through these challenging times. The 2020 Heroes of Sport Celebration promises to be rich with powerful moments of lives being transformed by the power of sport.

CAF is a world leader and has helped thousands of athletes with physical challenges improve their lives through sports and fitness. The virtual live premiere will tie in to #GivingTuesdayNow, a new global day of giving and unity as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

Why:

For over 26 years, CAF has provided grants for the adaptive sports equipment, training, and competition expenses needed to participate and compete, and CAF camps and clinics provide critical instruction and community needed to thrive. This past March 2020, CAF announced its largest grant distribution in history, 3,921 challenged athlete grants were made possible by last year’s fundraising. Isolation, loneliness, financial stress, and restriction from sports are realities that so many are facing right now. For most of us, these are unfamiliar and temporary. But for many challenged athletes, these are persistent realities that started long before the current health crisis. The virtual 2020 Heroes of Heart Celebration aims to raise critical funds to ensure CAF support is available in the future.
