CamelBak® Bolsters 2020 Running Team Roster with Three New Additions
February 25, 2020
PETALUMA, Calif. (Feb. 25, 2020)– CamelBak®,the global leader in award-winning personal hydration products, today announces the expansion of its running team athlete roster for 2020. Focused on road, track and trail running athletes, the strongly positioned team is set to compete in top races domestically and globally including world-class competitions in the United States, Europe, and Tokyo.
“2020 is a defining year for CamelBak where we’ve significantly invested in a world-class roster of run athletes that represent our values surrounding community and our mission solidified in sustainability,” says Steve Nadler, vice president of marketing and product management at CamelBak. “We can’t wait to see what this group accomplishes from the upcoming Olympic trials, to this summer’s ultra-race circuit, while being an extremely talented group of athletes that are authentic ambassadors for the CamelBak brand, mission and product.”
The new additions to the CamelBak running team roster are highlighted by steeplechase competitor and Olympian Aisha Praught-Leer, plant-based mountain running athlete and environmental advocate Sage Canaday, and professional running team Tinman Elite based in Boulder, Colo. Returning athletes to the team include top-ranked ultrarunner Jax Mariash, professional trail and ultrarunner YiOu Wang, and professional ultrarunner and adventure racer Dave Mackey.
Praught-Leer joins CamelBak as an accomplished runner on the global scene. Aisha won the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medal and made the 2017 world championships final in the steeple, as well as the 2019 final in the 1500 meters. Praught-Leer also competed in Athletics at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Aisha is also an advocate for sustainability and climate action. As an Olympian with a platform on and off the track, her goals in partnering with CamelBak include inspiring young runners to be more sustainable and learn how to ditch disposable plastic in their daily lives, while growing awareness around sustainability in the sport of running while she has her eyes set on the world stage in Tokyo this year.
Established in 2017 with a team vision to push the sport of running forward, the Tinman Elite professional running team has successfully burst onto the global running scene by training a wide range of successful athletes covering distances from 800m to the marathon. The world-class team boasts accolades including three individual National Champions in three different nations, three USATF Club Cross Country National Champions, and eight team members who qualified to the 2019 USATF Track & Field Championships across six events, with four top eight finishes. Tinman Elite also has a community reach and following with young runners across the globe. With this reach and goals to compete in Tokyo, Tinman Elite is committed to reducing the team’s environmental impact through its CamelBak partnership by minimizing their use of single-use plastics, planning team travel in a way that maximizes athlete opportunities while minimizing carbon footprint, and deepening awareness in the Tinman community around sustainability.
Sage Canaday joins CamelBak as a new addition the brand’s mountain-trail athlete roster. Boulder, Colo.-based Canaday is an ultra and trail runner who has also competed in road marathons and is a three-time USATF National Champion, a two-time US Olympic Trials qualifier in the marathon, and placed 16th overall at the Boston Marathon in 2015. In 2016, Sage placed 11that the Western States Endurance Run and finished second at the Pikes Peak Marathon in 2019. Canaday is also a life-long vegetarian and is an advocate for the environmental and health benefits of a primarily plant-based diet for athletes and non-athletes alike. With an exciting race schedule for 2020 mixed with both classic trail and ultra-distances around the globe, Canaday’s new partnership with Camelbak will allow him to spread awareness around reducing carbon footprint while staying hydrated on-trail with CamelBak’s newly launched trail running line of product—including the award-winning Zephyr Vest.
“Jax, YiOu and Dave have set a standard for what it means to be an accomplished CamelBak run athlete that lives and breathes our mission of sustainability and ditch disposable”, says Caitlin Vanleer, US run athlete manager at CamelBak. “I’m certain that with our newly solidified roster with the additions of Aisha, Tinman and Sage, we will continue to break barriers, reinvent and forever change the way we hydrate and perform, and share the CamelBak mission far and wide.”
