San Francisco, Calif. (May 25, 2021) – Bay Area-based event production company Run Local® welcomes participants from around the world back to the original and greatest California summer mileage challenge – the California Coast 500. From Memorial Day, May 31 to Labor Day, September 6, individuals and relay teams can choose to run, walk or cross train their way to 100, 250, 400 and 500 miles in an interactive experience up the iconic Highway 1. Participants are also encouraged to support the event’s official charity partner, Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play., which works to ensure kids have access to the three vital pillars of a healthy childhood — nutrition, education, and physical activity.

“For 2021, we’re doubling down on features as well as the overall experience to bring people together from around the world on a shared fitness journey along a section of the world we call home,” commented brand President, Aaron Jacobsen. “Partnering with Eat. Learn. Play. is equally important to bring awareness and raise money for a local organization making a direct impact on children’s lives in the Bay Area and around the country.”

The Run Local community will gather on the virtual Santa Monica Pier starting line and strive to hit their mileage goal up to the 500 mile milestone at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. Participants will get access to an exclusive summer mileage package that includes:

  • Interactive journey up Highway 1, including a white-label leaderboard developed by PWR Lab, automated messaging along the participant’s journey with digital badges, story-telling and a new “Endless Summer” option to keep going beyond 500 miles.
  • Weekly challenges to motivate all summer long with prizes from our partners
  • Training plans designed by the Chaski Endurance Collective and their world-class coaches
  • Surfboard inspired medal, super soft event shirt and commemorative bib. Digital-only package also available.

“We are so very excited to be partnering with Run Local, and their passionate participants this year. I am also looking forward to taking part in the challenge to run 500 miles,” said Chris Helfrich, president and CEO of Eat. Learn. Play. “By being this year’s charitable beneficiary, their generous contributions will go directly to the deserving children, families and programs that we’re supporting in Oakland.”
