ASICS Falmouth Road Race Announces Compassionate Care ALS as Official Sponsor of their Adaptive Athletes Program

April 9, 2025

The announcement comes ahead of the event’s 50th running of the Wheelchair Division

FALMOUTH, Mass. (April 9, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/  – The ASICS Falmouth Road Race has officially announced its multi-year sponsorship with Compassionate Care ALS, commonly known as CCALS. CCALS, a Falmouth-based organization, will serve as the official sponsor of the ASICS Falmouth Road Race Adaptive Athletes Program, presented by CCALS. This partnership will enhance the race experience of those participating in the adaptive athletes program, while also spreading knowledge of the positive impact CCALS has had on people locally, nationally and internationally who are affected by ALS.

The ASICS Falmouth Road Race Adaptive Athletes Program, presented by CCALS, provides the opportunity for wheelchair athletes from around the world to take part in the premier road running event. The Wheelchair Division journeys through the same iconic 7-mile course that has made the ASICS Falmouth Road Race one of the most sought-after events of the year.

“Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS) is proud to sign on as a sponsor of the Adaptive Athletes Program and build on our long-term partnership with the Falmouth Road Race. As a local Falmouth charity, CCALS has raised funds through Falmouth since 2001,” said Ron Hoffman, founder and executive director of CCALS. “Each year, our runners join together through this event to support the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) community. The ability to support those living with ALS is directly tied to our ability to leverage the Falmouth Road Race as a fundraiser.”

Hoffman continued, “In the world of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the importance of accessibility cannot be overstated. Wheelchairs and adaptive equipment are a lifeline to those impacted by this disease. Ever since 2014, when our staff member Jim Bruce first pushed a wheelchair with a picture of his twenty-five-year-old son, Matt, who had recently passed with ALS, Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS) has been a part of the Falmouth Road Race wheelchair division.”

This year’s ASICS Falmouth Road Race, on Aug. 17, will be celebrating its 50th running of the Wheelchair Division. The 1975 Falmouth Road Race hosted the event’s first official Wheelchair Division. Throughout the last 50 years, many notable wheelchair athletes have taken part in the event, with Bob Hall taking the title of first Falmouth Road Race wheelchair champion in 1975.

“We are thrilled to welcome Compassionate Care ALS as the official sponsor of our Adaptive Athletes Program,” said Scott Ghelfi, president of Falmouth Road Race, Inc. “CCALS has been a valued partner of our race for many years, and their unwavering commitment to supporting individuals and families affected by ALS aligns perfectly with the spirit of our event. As we celebrate the 50th running of the Wheelchair Division, we are proud to further our shared mission of inclusion, accessibility, and community.”

The Falmouth Road Race was established in 1973 and has become one of the premier running events of the summer season. Each year the race draws an international field of Olympians, elite athletes and recreational runners to enjoy the iconic 7-mile seaside course. Race weekend also includes a variety of other events. The invitational Falmouth Track Festival, presented by ASICS, will welcome elite milers on Friday, Aug. 15, and features the 14th annual Tommy Cochary High School Mile for local high school athletes. The following day, the SBLI Family Fun Run will host kids ages 2-12 to compete in their own races, while also providing an abundance of booths and activities for all to enjoy. Throughout the weekend, the Health & Fitness Expo will be taking place, welcoming over 20,000 visitors to browse the various booths featuring the latest in running, fitness and uniquely Cape Cod items.
