Summer running community, OneNE Challenge, raises money for New England running stores and New England Food Banks
Rumford, Maine – OneNE Challenge, a new initiative created to continue the spirit of the local running scene during the COVID-19 pandemic, has launched a summer long virtual distance running challenge to encourage New England runners to stay in shape while supporting local charities and running stores.
Runners can register to join the OneNE Summer Running Challenge as an individual runner or a member of a team and are encouraged to “run across New England” and set their own personal mileage or team goals. Runners will maintain a digital running diary by inputting their runs and walks into the OneNE Challenge Internet portal. Organizers will keep track of participant miles and maintain a real time leaderboard. The cost of registration is $60 and includes a branded hoodie and custom milestone patch. More than 10 percent of all registration fees will go to local running stores and all donations and fundraising will go to New England Food Banks.
“New England’s running community is like a fraternity, and normally there would be hundreds of organized runs and walks throughout the summer to support local charities,” said Jenna Ginsberg , co-founder of the initiative. “Because of COVID-19, most running events across the states have been cancelled. Our OneNE Summer Running Challenge seeks to unite runners and walkers, inspire them to train and stay fit, and encourage the sense of competition and companionship that the running and walking community is well known for.”
Ginsberg is the owner and CEO of one of the premier sports events technology and services companies, All Sports Events. Providing event support and services to fundraising sporting events from Maine to Florida which raise more than $100 million dollars annually for charities. OneNE Challenge is a joint venture between Ginsberg’s company and Prime Time Timing, one of the US’s largest track and field timing companies and Karmarush, LLC, of Philadelphia, PA. Karmarush is the premier data processor & broadcast graphics provider for US track and field.
In addition to the local running stores, OneNE Challenge has chosen Feeding America affiliates in New England as the charitable beneficiary of the challenge.
“It is very important to lend a hand to our local running stores. These stores have supported New England athletes and events for years. We’re providing a way for runners to give back,” said Ginsberg. “The COVID-19 shutdown started just as the spring racing season was about to begin. The shutdown has been devastating for these small local businesses.”
Running stores and affiliates can gain additional benefit by linking with OneNE to drive participation in this unique collaboration. Contact Jenna for additional information.
“Maine’s charitable food network has never seen the types of challenges that COVID-19 has brought to our state,” said Kristen Miale, president of Good Shepherd Food Bank, an affiliate of Feeding America. “At a time when we are seeing an increased demand for our services, this virtual event is building a community of runners who are supporting the mission of hunger-relief and improving Mainers’ health.”
