February 19, 2025

TBC welcomes nearly 600 riders to Southern Arizona for a 3-day, 4 event stage race

TUCSON, AZ (February 19, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The 2025 Tucson Bicycle Classic (TBC) is set to transform Pima County into a global cycling hub from February 21-23, 2025. This year’s event is a testament to the collaborative spirit of our community, bringing together local organizations, municipalities, and international athletes for an unforgettable experience.

A New Era in Downtown Tucson: The Rio Nuevo Criterium

In a groundbreaking partnership, Visit Tucson and the Rio Nuevo District have joined forces to introduce the Rio Nuevo Criterium p/b Visit Tucson. This exhilarating nighttime race will illuminate downtown Tucson on Friday, February 21, offering spectators a front-row seat to high-speed cycling action against the vibrant backdrop of the city’s Rio Nuevo district. The criterium promises to be a dynamic blend of sport and urban culture, showcasing Tucson’s commitment to hosting premier athletic events.

Award-Winning Collaboration: Marana and Oro Valley

The towns of Marana and Oro Valley were recognized with the 2024 Governor’s Tourism Award for Best Tourism Partnership by the Arizona Office of Tourism for their collaborative efforts in elevating Northern Pima County as a premier cycling and outdoor recreation destination. Their dedication continues in 2025, as they further their shared vision of outdoor living—where residents and visitors can live, work, and play in vibrant, active communities.

As part of this vision, in addition to supporting Tucson Bicycle Classic, Marana and Oro Valley will co-host the 2nd annual Project Echelon Gran Fondo, a mass-participation cycling event that welcomes cyclists of all levels to ride alongside some of the sport’s top professionals. Their commitment to promoting active lifestyles through cycling is creating lasting opportunities for recreation, tourism, and economic growth.

A Global Gathering of Elite Cyclists

The 2025 TBC is proud to host nearly 600 riders, including over 200 elite (pro) men and women from around the world. This diverse assembly of talent underscores the event’s status as a cornerstone in the international cycling calendar. Athletes and fans alike can look forward to thrilling competitions set against the stunning landscapes of Pima County.

Strengthening Tucson’s Cycling Legacy

Tucson Bicycle Classic Race Director Marco Colbert emphasizes the event’s broader impact beyond the competition:

“This isn’t just about a bike race—it’s about bringing people together. We’re building community events with a bike race at the center, creating an experience that welcomes everyone. Whether you’re a die-hard cycling fan or just someone who wants to enjoy an incredible atmosphere, this event is for you. By working together with organizations like Visit Tucson, Rio Nuevo, Marana, and Oro Valley, we’re elevating the sport of cycling while strengthening Greater Tucson’s identity as a premier cycling destination.”

The event’s expansion into downtown Tucson with the new criterium course signifies a transformative moment for local cycling culture, solidifying Pima County’s reputation as a haven for cyclists. Our collective efforts reflect a steadfast commitment to the sport and the athletes who inspire us.
