Marathon Launches its 19th Year after a Record-Breaking Season in 2024

Denver, CO. (January 16, 2025)  /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Denver Colfax Marathon is proud to announce that Cigna Healthcare has renewed its title sponsorship for the 2025 race season. After a record-breaking 25,000 runners participated in the 2024 marathon weekend, this partnership continues to elevate the race’s profile nationwide.

The Denver Colfax Marathon is the largest marathon weekend in the 8-state Rocky Mountain region and one of the top 25 marathon weekends in the country. The city welcomes runners from all 50 states and several countries each spring for eight races over two days.

Cigna Healthcare’s partnership not only supports Denver’s largest running event of the year, but it also empowers thousands of girls in the Girls on the Run of the Rockies program. The company will once again sponsor the girls in the program by offering a complimentary entry for them to run in the marathon race weekend.

“This year is a milestone for Girls on the Run as we celebrate our 20th anniversary and a whole generation of girls who have been empowered to activate their limitless potential,” said Lisa Johnson, executive director of Girls on the Run of the Rockies. “Cigna’s support has allowed our program to bring more girls and coaches to the Colfax 5K event, which serves as the final celebration of our spring program.”

Girls on the Run is an after-school program that uses the power of running to help change the way girls see themselves and their opportunities. Through its 10-week curriculum, girls learn to stretch themselves physically, mentally, socially and emotionally while training for a 5K event.

“This is an incredible program that does so much for the health and self-esteem of girls throughout the Denver community,” said Donna Upson, vice president of client management for Cigna Healthcare Mountain States. “They make running fun, while also teaching girls the importance of exercise and other healthy habits early in their lives.”

Along with Girls on the Run of the Rockies, the marathon also supports more than 125 nonprofits every race season through its charity partners program. This platform helps contribute close to a million dollars to Colorado nonprofits each year.
