TRITON World Series Announce Series line up and World Finals at Press Conference

January 14, 2025

Portugal (January 14, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – TRITON, the new global triathlon series has just announced its series line up including the World Finals to be hosted in the City of Portimão in the Algarve, Portugal on October 24th, 25th and 26th 2025.

The final will be hosted in the innovative TRITON 3 format taking place across 3 consecutive days and hosting 6 races simultaneously, a SPRINT a MIDDLE, a LONG a Team Corporate Series final, together with a special Country X Country Legends Team Competition and a kids race. The Legends race pits two guest countries directly against each other for “flag, honor and glory”! The teams are of former professional athletes racing together as a team of 3 and carrying their nations colors.

TRITON strives on innovation and aims to bring new competition and race formats to the table as well as a different business proposal with an ambitious 10-year business plan to reach 30 host nations, 60 races, 180 competitions and thousands of participants from all corners of the globe. On the business side, TRITON’s innovation is highlighted by a market non-compete clause that awards the LRH – local rights holder – not just the event rights but the month, preventing other TRITON events to take place in the same race format, on the same month, in the same continent. This clause aims to protect LRH and host destinations from competing directly against each other for market share preventing cannibalization. It also allows for athletes to be able to do more TRITON events in the region not having to choose between races,

Paulo Passos Leite. Triton Chairman and Founder stated, “Our focus is on delivering quality events and value to all stakeholders involved and not selling licenses. TRITON has a very clear view on its market expansion plan and strategy, aiming for a sustainable growth without negatively affecting its partners or athletes.”

On the competition side TRITON brings two race formats to the table

  1. the “traditional” one-day triathlon called TRITON 1
  2. the more innovative and series flagship format of TRITON 3 which helps to secure the best race venues, since athletes don’t need to start in the same location which allows the destination to feature what it best has to offer when it comes to the swim, bike and run venues but it also allows for a more safety and rescue friendly event, focusing attention and resources on each discipline one at a time, a major concern for TRITON. Lastly but most definitely not least, it offers and a better and more extended experience at the host destination, making it a real destination promotional event.

Both race formats feature 3 distances at all races, a SPRINT a MIDDLE and a LONG race, in both single female and male and corporate competitions. The 3 distances allow for athletes that prefer a shorter or longer distance to co-experience the event together targeting a larger audience and opportunity for more to experience a finals event. TRITON is the only triathlon series that offer 4 championship races in one weekend

TRITON 3, the finals race format also introduces a unique scoring system never seen in triathlon before where what counts as the deciding factor to win is a scoring system and not the time.

  • Athletes that finish first score 1 point, second 2 points and third 3 points. At the end of day three the points are added and the athlete with the lower score wins.
  • This scoring system adds a new strategy level to the race since all disciplines now carry the same weight to the result and it matters most to finish in front of the competition than to finish with a big-time difference, saving energy for the next race stage.

TRITON has a strong DNA where all small details are looked at from a brand identity perspective, from its medals and t-shirts to the colors (white for SPRINT, red for MIDDLE and BLACK for long) to the numbers (SPRINT starts with 3, MIDDLE with 6 and LONG with 9). All details aim to deliver a brand identity recognizable anywhere a TRITON race takes place.

The new destinations confirmed to join the series together with Portugal and Brazil are, UAE, CHINA, SPAIN, GREECE. Others are also inline to come onboard, namely, MEXICO, URUGUAY, GERMANY and of course the USA.

TRITON has recently turned its attention to find the rights partners in the USA to continue its market expansion in the biggest market in the world.

Already qualified for the finals (pending the other athletes from qualifying races from 2025) are 700 plus athletes from 54 different nations.
