Carlsbad Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K Offers San Diego County’s First Marathon Distance Road Race of 2025

Thousands of participants from around the country will kick off the new year at the event

CARLSBAD, Calif. December 3 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The 35th annual Carlsbad Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K is returning on January 19, 2025, and is expected to draw over 7,000 participants from around the nation. Over 1,500 of these participants will be partaking in San Diego County’s first marathon distance road race of 2025, which offers over 18 miles of ocean views along the 26.2-mile course. Registration for the Carlsbad Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K is open now.

The Carlsbad Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K offers participants the opportunity to run a scenic oceanfront course while enjoying local entertainment along the way in ideal Southern California winter weather. With weather predictions showing an average high of 65 degrees and a low of 50 degrees in January, the event is a great opportunity for those looking to get a head start on their 2025 races in great running conditions. For those who have set a goal to run a marathon in the new year, this will be an early opportunity to complete their resolution.

The event will once again feature the Double Down Challenge. Participants of the challenge will take on both the 5K and the half marathon on race day, completing a total of 16.2 miles. Participants who complete the challenge will be awarded three medals, one for each race distance and a third “Double Down” medal to signify their accomplishment.

The Carlsbad Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K is a part of the San Diego Foundation SoCal Triple Crown race series, which features In Motion Events’ three signature events. The series starts with the Carlsbad Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K, followed by the GOVX San Diego Half Marathon & 5K in March, and is wrapped up with the America’s Finest City Half Marathon & 5K in August. This trio offers a variety of courses and scenery throughout San Diego, providing athletes with a fun and unique running experience in distinct parts of the city and county. Athletes who participate in each event in the same calendar year, no matter the distance they participate in, will be awarded four medals, one for each race and an additional San Diego Foundation SoCal Triple Crown medal.

The weekend of events will also feature the Kids Marathon Mile at LEGOLAND® California Resort on January 18, 2025. The Kids Marathon Mile takes place before the park opens to guests, providing a unique and exclusive opportunity for participants to race through LEGOLAND®. A portion of each registration for the Kids Marathon Mile is donated directly to Merlin’s Magic Wand, the official charity partner of the event. Merlin’s Magic Wand Foundation is a non-profit organization that works globally across all Merlin attractions to create magical experiences for children who need them most through a variety of magical programs.
