August 11, 2024
Participants from all 50 states and 27 countries conquer 105 miles of endurance mountain biking in the Two-Mile-High City
Leadville, CO., (Aug. 11, 2024) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Life Time Leadville Trail 100 MTB presented by Kenetik delivered an epic 30th anniversary this weekend, drawing more than 2,000 athletes from all 50 states and 27 countries to Leadville to take part in the iconic race.
Riders ranging from ages 18 to 81 took to the starting line at the corner of 6th St and Harrison Ave in downtown Leadville Saturday morning, eager to tackle one of the world’s most grueling race mountain bike courses. The 105-mile out-and-back journey climbed from 9,200 feet to a summit of 12,500 feet at Columbine Mine. Athletes ventured through a demanding mix of high alpine trails and forest roads against the stunning backdrop of the Colorado Rockies. Cool, overcast conditions made for an ideal day of riding.
Celebrating three decades of grit, guts and determination, the Leadville Trail 100 MTB remains a pinnacle event in the global mountain biking community. The inaugural race in 1994 attracted 150 riders, with 113 finishing and etching their names in cycling history. Male and female winners from the first edition, John Stamstad and Laurie Brandt, traveled to Leadville this weekend to celebrate the milestone event.
“We are so very proud of each and every one of our participants,” shared Tamira Jenlink, Leadville Race Series event manager. “We know this journey was not without an immense amount of commitment and perseverance from not only our participants, but their crews, family and friends. Embrace every pedal stroke, every drop of sweat, every moment sacrificed to dedicate yourselves to this extraordinary effort. From the back of the pack to the front, we celebrate everything our athletes accomplished today!”
