IRONMAN Pro Series Start Lists Announced For 25th Anniversary Edition Of The Athletic Brewing IRONMAN Lake Placid, Part Of The VinFast IRONMAN North America Series

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. / TAMPA, Fla. (July 10, 2024) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – A robust field featuring many of the world’s best professional triathletes will toe the start line at the Athletic Brewing IRONMAN® Lake Placid triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series, when the IRONMAN Pro Series™ returns to the U.S. on Sunday, July 21. The 2024 Athletic Brewing IRONMAN Lake Placid triathlon will offer professionals a maximum of 5,000 points towards IRONMAN Pro Series standings, a $125,000 event total pro prize purse, and four qualifying slots for each gender to the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship triathlons in Nice, France (women), or Kona, Hawai`i (men).

With a field that includes five of the top 10 professional women and six of the Top 10 professional men in the current IRONMAN Pro Series standings set to compete, the event can be seen live in person and will be broadcast for free across multiple platforms for global viewers including proseries.ironman.com, Outside TV, DAZN and L’Equipe in France, and YouTube among others.

Returning to defend her title will be Alice Alberts (USA) who currently sits in 8th place in the standings after three IRONMAN Pro Series race appearances. Australian Kylie Simpson, who currently sits 2nd in the standings, enters her third full-distance IRONMAN of the year and fifth IRONMAN Pro Series race just over a month after a podium finish at the Cairns Airport IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Championship Cairns. Jackie Hering (USA), who sits 4th in the standings comes in fresh off an inspiring victory at the IRONMAN European Championship Hamburg and will make her first appearance in Lake Placid in over ten years. Dutch professional, Lotte Wilms, currently sitting in 5th place in the standings, will look to add to her podium finishes this year following a 2nd place finish in Cairns and a 3rd place finish in Texas. Danielle Lewis (USA), who currently sits 7th in the standings, is primed for another good result following four top ten finishes in four IRONMAN Pro Series races.

Other challengers include Penny Slater (AUS) (22nd in the standings); Erin Schenkels (CAN) (14th in the standings); Lesley Smith (USA) (15th in the standings); and 2022 IRONMAN Lake Placid Champion Sarah True (USA) who will return to the Adirondacks looking for her first victory of the year and to improve on her 33rd place standing in the IRONMAN Pro Series.

Scheduled to make their IRONMAN Pro Series debut will be Ruth Astle (GBR); Jodie Robertson (USA) and Regan Hollioake (AUS) who is one to watch after winning the IRONMAN Australia race in May in her rookie year as a professional triathlete.

In the highly competitive men’s professional fields, Joe Skipper (GBR) will return to defend his 2023 title while also looking to improve on his 16th place standing following four appearances in the IRONMAN Pro Series this year. Among others to watch will be Matt Hanson (USA) who currently sits atop the IRONMAN Pro Series standings and whose best result in Lake Placid came as a third-place finish in 2023; Jackson Laundry (CAN) will be stepping up to undertake only his 2nd full-distance IRONMAN race across his 8 years and currently sits 2nd in standings, while Lionel Sanders (CAN) will be making the Athletic Brewing IRONMAN Lake Placid race his first full-distance IRONMAN race of the year, currently sitting 21st in the standings.

Other top contenders include Chris Leiferman (USA) (6th in the standings); Justin Riele (USA) (7th in the standings); Matthew Marquardt (USA) (10th in the standings); Braden Currie (NZL) (13th in the standings); Colin Szuch (USA) (3rd in the standings); and Arnaud Guilloux (FRA) (12th in the standings). Scheduled to make their IRONMAN Pro Series debut will be Bart Aernouts (BEL), and Ben Stern (USA)

Celebrating 25 years, the 2024 Athletic Brewing IRONMAN Lake Placid triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series, will see athletes kick off their 140.6-mile journey with a 2.4-mile swim in the Mirror Lake before athletes embark on the 112-mile bike course with great views of the Adirondacks passing through the towns of Keene, Jay, Wilmington and Lake Placid. The 26.2-mile run course takes athletes through the city center to picturesque Mirror Lake before the culmination of their day at the historic Lake Placid Olympic Oval.

Marking a quarter-century of unforgettable moments and incredible achievements at the iconic North American event, the Athletic Brewing IRONMAN Lake Placid triathlon will celebrate its 25th anniversary this July. In addition, approximately 2,600 registered athletes are expected to toe the start line at Mirror Lake and are in for a special treat as the “Voice of IRONMAN,” Mike Reilly, who retired at the end of the 2022 season, will return for a special occasion to call the 25th anniversary of the event bringing yet another exciting element to this year’s celebration.
