GFNY Super Sunday an ocean apart: Pennsylvania-York and La Vaujany-L’Alpe d’Huez

June 19, 2024

A sprint finish and a climb battle to the line decided the races

New York City, June 19, 2024 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – York hosted the second edition of GFNY Pennsylvania this past Sunday. The undulating race course was just 67.8 miles yet boasting an elevation gain of no less than 6053 feet.

Under perfect weather conditions, the race started off with a strong group of riders. It was at mile 8 when Flavio de Luna (Team GFNY) and defending GFNY York champion Ben Gorodetsky (NYC, USA) successfully got away. The chase group including GFNY Florida Sebring champ León Santamaría (Colombia) managed to close the gap by mile 50. With only 15 miles to go, Santamaría, De Luna and Gorodetsky attacked. In the three man sprint to the line, Gorodetsky took the win in 3:03:53 ahead of Santamaría (Colombia) and De Luna (Team GFNY).

In the female race, Erin Collins (USA) took the win in 03:30:00 ahead of Susan Haid and Aleksandra Maz.

Meanwhile in France, the climbers had a feast at the fourth GFNY La Vaujany – L’Alpe d’Huez: 151km with 3,914m of climbing, including the famous switchbacks of L’Alpe d’Huez. And it was yet again four time GFNY champ Tim Alleman from Belgium who put his stamp on the race. After winning the race last year, he attacked the final climb back up to Vaujany together with French Loïc Ruffeaut and compatriot Stefan Van Aelst. At the finish, he took the win in 4:43:04, thirty seconds ahead of Ruffeaut. The Frenchman improved from his fourth place last year but had to accept being the runner-up for the fourth time at a GFNY.

After a third place at GFNY Villard-de-Lans 2023, Laurence Reviglio (France) took the win in Vaujany in a time of 6:05:21 ahead of compatriots Gladys Piticco and Sylvie Riedle.

Next up on the GFNY calendar is the third edition of GFNY Lourdes Tourmalet which will take place this Sunday, June 23, 2024.
