Runners Raise over $79,000 for First Descents at TCS New York City Marathon
November 9, 2023
DENVER, Colorado (November 9, 2023) – First Descents is thrilled to announce that 22 passionate individuals raced in the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon as part of the Out Living It Project, raising over $79,000 to support the nonprofit organization that provides life-changing outdoor adventure experiences to young adults impacted by cancer and multiple sclerosis.
The 22 dedicated runners not only challenged themselves physically but also raised awareness and much-needed funds. With more runners supporting First Descents than ever before at the world’s biggest marathon, the nonprofit far exceeded its fundraising goals for the event. Many of the runners are alumni who have personally experienced the transformative power of the organization’s adventure programs.
“We are immensely proud of this year’s team who participated in the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon,” said Ryan O’Donoghue, CEO at First Descents. “Their dedication to our mission is truly inspiring, and we felt honored to celebrate their contribution at the finish line on Sunday.”
The funds raised by First Descents’ marathon team will directly support the organization’s ongoing efforts to provide free programming. Every dollar raised will help extend the reach of their programs and enable more individuals to experience the healing power of adventure.
