Fernando Maluf (São Paolo, Brazil) and Kristen Larue (Chicago, Ill.) top the competition at The 2023 IRONMAN Chattanooga Triathlon, part of The VinFast IRONMAN North America Series

Over 1,500 athletes from around the world converged in the Scenic City for the IRONMAN Chattanooga triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Sept. 25, 2023) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The rolling hills and scenic views of Chattanooga, Tenn. and northern Georgia played host to the IRONMAN® Chattanooga triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America series, on Sunday, Sept. 24. Over 1,500 athletes from 49 U.S States and 21 countries, regions, and territories kicked off their IRONMAN journey with a 2.4-mile swim in the Tennessee River before taking on a 116-mile ride through the hills of north Georgia and a 26.2-mile run around historic Chattanooga with an unforgettable finish down Riverfront Parkway along the Tennessee River.

In the age group men’s race, Fernando Maluf of São Paulo, Brazil competing in the M25-29 age group was the first to cross the line with an overall finishing time of 8:22:55. In the age group women’s race, Kristen LaRue of Chicago, Ill. racing in the F30-34 age group took top honors with an overall finishing time of 10:20:30.

The 2023 IRONMAN Chattanooga race, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series offered age-group qualifying slots to the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship with the women’s race taking place on September 22, 2024 in Nice, France and the men’s race taking place on October 26, 2024, in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.

Next Events Coming Up

The racing continues along the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series circuit with stops on the Western Coast for the Kaiser Permanente IRONMAN California triathlon on Oct. 22 before heading to the Sunshine State for the Visit Panama City Beach IRONMAN Florida triathlon on Nov. 4. The IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon racing continues in North America with stops in Western Tennessee with the St. Jude IRONMAN 70.3 Memphis triathlon on Oct. 7 and central Texas with the IRONMAN 70.3 Waco triathlon on Oct. 15.

The IRONMAN Chattanooga triathlon will return to the Scenic City on Sept. 29, 2024. General registration for the 2024 edition will open on Oct. 2, 2023.
