“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Dorchester County Department of Tourism and associated agencies for another five years,” said Scott Langen, Regional Director for The IRONMAN Group. “The IRONMAN Maryland and IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman triathlons hold a special place in the hearts of our athletes and spectators alike. We look forward to continuing to build on the legacy that the late Gerry Boyle, IRONMAN Maryland’s first race director, started years ago. Year after year, it is truly remarkable to see the dedication that the local authorities, volunteers, and fans bring to create an exceptional race experience for our athletes.”
“We are so proud to extend our collaboration with IRONMAN as the host venue for both the IRONMAN Maryland and IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman triathlons,” said Holly Gilpin, Director of the Dorchester County Department of Tourism. “These races have become an integral part of our community’s calendar. We eagerly anticipate welcoming participants and spectators to our unspoiled landscapes and coastal communities each year.”
Cambridge, located in Dorchester County, offers an enticing mix of scenery, history and cuisine. With its serene waterfront, charming downtown, and warm hospitality, the region provides an ideal destination for athletes, families, and spectators alike. The IRONMAN Maryland triathlon begins with a 2.4-mile swim in the Choptank River, followed by a 112-mile ride through rural Dorchester County including the scenic Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, and caps off with a 26.2-mile run through downtown Cambridge and coastal neighborhoods, buoyed by the cheers of thousands of supporters making their way to the finish line at picturesque Long Wharf Park. The longstanding IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman triathlon follows a similar route that includes a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and 13.1-mile run that culminates at Gerry Boyle Park.
The 2023 edition of the IRONMAN Maryland triathlon is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 16, with the IRONMAN Village Expo opening at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12 at Long Wharf in Cambridge.
