Bear kills runner near Yellowstone National Park

July 25, 2023

47-year-old woman was killed in a vicious attack by a grizzly bear near Yellowstone National Park in southern Montana on the weekend, sparking an urgent and continuing search for the animal and the emergency closure of the area for the next several weeks.

The body of Amie Adamson of Derby, Kan., was discovered Saturday morning on the Buttermilk Trail, about 13 kilometres west of the town of West Yellowstone, with wounds consistent with a bear attack, according to a statement released Monday by the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Upon investigation of the site, department officials, accompanied by bear specialists and staff from other agencies, found tracks from one adult grizzly and spotted at least one grizzly cub nearby.
