This Year’s Event Will Feature the Team Championship, a New Competition Open to All Groups
BOSTON, MA – March 9, 2023 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – ethos, the mass participation event organization that produces the Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon, announced today that the 2023 event will take place on August 26- 27, 2023. To celebrate the 15-year milestone, the Boston Triathlon is launching a new team competition. Any tri clubs, high school teams, college teams, corporate teams, and training groups can compete in the 2023 Team Championship cup competition, which has $5,000 in prizes up for grabs. The competition is open to any group that wants to race as a team, with winners receiving cash prizes, possession of the coveted, custom-designed Championship Cup, and bragging rights for one full year.
“We’re so excited to announce this new Team Championship,” said Michael O’Neil, president of the Boston Triathlon. “Our event has always been about opening up the sport of triathlon to more people and, by inviting these groups, we hope to draw new participants who might be inspired to join their friends and colleagues to compete in the race.”
Teams vying for the Team Championship cup must have a minimum of seven people and can be co-ed or single-gender and will be scored in their respective category. There is no cap on the number of team members, but each team can have up to ten athletes score for their team. Scores will be individual results only, with no relay options. A total of $5,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the winning teams, with $3,000 going to first place, $1,250 going to second, and $750 awarded to the third-place team.
Teams will also have the opportunity to raise funds for the event’s official charity partner, Boston Medical Center (BMC). The hospital offers programs and services to enhance overall health and provide exceptional care for all. All funds raised will support BMC’s innovative efforts to advance health equity and close outcome gaps linked to race and wealth.
The New York City-based Full Throttle Endurance won the team competition in 2022 for the second year in a row and will be returning to defend their title in this year’s Championship Cup.
“At Full Throttle Endurance we always train as a TEAM, so when we saw the Boston Triathlon had a Team Title we wanted to come race for the Boston Triathlon Team Championship Cup. Two years later, we will continue to go back as we have built life-long friendships that share a love of the sport. Winning back to back titles in 2021 and 2022 is just icing on the cake,” said Scott Berlinger of Full Throttle Endurance. “We’ll be back in 2023 and our team is looking forward to facing a new crop of competitors. We’re ready to take everyone on and continue our reign as the Team Cup Champions.”
“We are proud to be the title sponsor of this inspiring event and thrilled to support the great spirit of competition that the Boston Triathlon creates.
