Registration Now Open for Second Annual Women Run The Vote Relay

August 24, 2021

2021’s Mission Supports Indigenous Sovereignty and Environmental Justice Organizations

Seattle, WA – August 23, 2021 – The 2021 Women Run the Vote Virtual Relay, co-sponsored by Oiselle and Run 4 All Women will take place from September 20 – 26, 2021. The second annual event will support indigenous sovereignty and environmental justice organizations.  Registration is now open for teams of 20 people.

This year’s 907-mile virtual relay starts at Apsaalooké (Crow) lands at Yellowstone National Park and ends in Duwamish territory (Oiselle, HQ, Seattle, WA). Throughout the 900+ mile journey, relayers will receive emails sharing stories about Native people and nations whose land along the route.

“Our event centers Indigenous people and nations who have been stewards of the land from time immemorial,” said Oiselle’s Director of Sports Advocacy Alison Mariella Désir. “We all need to take concrete actions to address the climate crisis and centering indigenous communities and their knowledge is a critical step, along with understanding the ways that we can hold politicians accountable through civic actions, like voting.”

The organizers’ goal is to educate participants while raising funds for the Duwamish Tribe of Seattle, National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, and Runners for Public Lands.

“For Indigenous communities, running is medicine, and it is an incredibly powerful act of advocacy in and of itself,” said Mallory Adamski, who is Diné and NIWRC’s Director of Communications and Advancement. “On behalf of the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, we are honored to support this year’s Women Run the Vote Virtual Relay. We appreciate Oiselle and Run 4 All Women for lifting Indigenous voices, sovereignty, and solutions in this work.”

The 2020 Women Run the Vote Relay raised $270,620 for Black Voters Matter. 10,000 participants paired off into 667 teams to cover the 686-mile virtual journey from Atlanta, GA to Washington, D.C. journeying through Civil Rights sites. You can read the full recap of the event here.

Registration for the 2021 event is open now until September 17, 2021 . The entry fee is $38 with a bandana for the first 2900 participants and $32 without.

About Run 4 All Women

Run 4 All Women is a community based organization dedicated to empowering women through fitness. Founded by Alison Mariella Désir in 2017, we ran over 260 miles to advance the conversation around  women’s reproductive rights. In 2018, we launched a nationwide voter registration initiative, rooted in local running communities. In 2020, we are helping to inspire and empower people as the country begins the long healing process brought on by a global pandemic. We invite all to come run, virtually, in the footsteps of civil rights pioneers, all the way from Atlanta to Washington DC with  Womxn Run The Vote, a Virtual Relay for Real Change.
