Brompton Collaborates with Protected Species to Evolve Women’s City Outerwear for Stylish Bike Commutes

March 17, 2021

NEW YORK (March 17, 2021) – Brompton Bicycle, the London-based manufacturer of the iconic Brompton folding bike, and Protected Species, a UK-based designer of sustainable, weatherproof outerwear by women, for women, today announced the availability of the Brompton x Protected Species collaboration to make moving around the city on a bicycle the most stylish part of the day. With a collective focus on timeless, versatile and sustainable products that are created to last and built for the demands of city life, the brands have come together for a product collaboration that has those values at its heart.

Combining cycling heritage, iconic design and engineering sensibilities from Brompton, with contemporary refinement in women’s waterproof outerwear from Protected Species, the collaboration features two stylish, waterproof silhouettes which provide protection from a stormy ride across the city, through to a confident stroll into a bar, café or boardroom.

The ultimate beauty of this collection, which includes the Parka and City Rider silhouettes, is the ability to use a host of technical and safety cycling features while on the bike, which can then be simply tucked away to offer a multi-functional, waterproof wardrobe staple with the style to be worn across all a women’s daily activities.

The jackets are highly waterproof, windproof and breathable with sealed seams, and have been developed using a four-way, knitted stretch, eco-conscious fabric for freedom of movement, creating a stylish outerwear staple that is creaseless, lightweight and easy-care.

“Feeling good in what we wear, or wearing something that assimilates with our sense of style, is often linked to our confidence. If you look and feel the part, you’re mentally on your way to embracing a new challenge,” said Rebecca McElligott, co-founder, Protected Species. “The products we make need to perform on the ride, but also look good enough to hop straight off the bike into an office meeting or restaurant with friends. Brompton understands this better than anyone, and are the perfect brand partner to help us achieve this.”

“What we’ve created with the team at Protected Species strikes the absolute balance between technical, aesthetic and in-the-saddle sophistication,” said Christina Lindquist, head of marketing, Brompton. “It was really exciting when partnered with Protected Species, because they ticked all the boxes in terms of the technical performance and functionality that fits well with the engineering-led, form-follows-function approach to our bikes.”

The Brompton x Protected Species Parka – $250

A classic parka styling with longer length, the jacket includes a split rear hem allowing for comfort in the saddle without compromising coverage, while a two-way waterproof zipper allows for additional adjustment.

The Brompton x Protected Species City Rider – $220

A shorter length, sportier styled jacket, that fuses outdoor performance with a sporting luxe feel for cycling, walking and everything in between, featuring an asymmetric front zip with storm placket and dropped rear hem for extra coverage on the bike.

The line is available now at us.brompton.com and at Brompton’s flagship Junction store in New York City’s West Village.
