Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend Embraces The Unknown With A Brand New Shamrock Experience
December 14, 2020
December 14, 2020 – VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA – The Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend has been welcoming nearly 25,000 runners to Virginia Beach, Virginia since 1973. This year’s event, the 49th running, will look like no other race in the event’s history. As one of the first large running events in the United States to cancel in 2020, planning for the 2021 event has included a lot of uncertainty and unknowns.
“The third weekend in March is always the Shamrock Marathon Weekend. It is a tradition in our local community and the running community. Runners train all winter with the goal of running a spring race. As we looked forward to 2021 race calendar, we knew we couldn’t host a traditional running race, but we had to do something.” said Amy Frostick, co-owner and race director.
The 2021 Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend, scheduled for March 19-21, won’t be held as a traditional multi-day event because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but instead will offer runners the chance to race on the new official course starting and finishing on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk during the open time window of 7am – 5pm. This new Shamrock Experience will provide participants with official timed routes with course support for the 8K, Half Marathon, and Marathon. While the big party tent will not be in place this year, completing any race is a celebration. Participants can expect to feel the traditional St. Patty’s Day excitement when they cross their finish line.
“J&A Racing and the Shamrock Marathon Weekend are staples in our community. We have enjoyed working together for many years to create nationally recognized events and traditions. We look forward to create a safe and exciting Shamrock weekend for everyone involved and look forward to welcoming runners back to Virginia Beach,” said Nancy Helman, Interim Director Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau.
A virtual option is also available for participants who would like to run their race anywhere or anytime during the virtual race window. Registration is now open at shamrockmarathon.com
