RACE RESULT has developed an easy solution for contact tracing at larger events to help make sporting events safer under pandemic circumstances. Athletes can safely follow social distancing restrictions on course in most running races, but crowds of people are almost inevitable at the start and finish area, aid stations or race expo. Contact tracing via bib number is ideal for all these areas. The transponder at the back of the bib is used to detect who entered a dedicated zone at the event site at which time, and when that person left again.

Contact tracing is not just limited to race participants, but transponders can easily be issued to all staff and volunteers for contact tracing throughout the event. Disposable transponders can be stuck to the back or race bibs or ID badges worn on lanyards.

Using a special software makes allows for the operator to prioritize or filter out high risk contacts in the event of an infection. Operators can also determine the number of people in the individual areas at any time and could thus intervene and limit access to stay within their local capacity restrictions and permits. The contact tracing solution is based on existing RACE RESULT hardware and software and can be easily operated by any experienced race timer.
