XTERRA Trentino to host ET Cross Tri Championships
The XTERRA Trentino-Dolomiti Paganella off-road triathlon and duathlon races scheduled for September 24-26, 2021 in Molveno, Italy will double as the European Triathlon Cross Duathlon and Triathlon Championships.
The breathtaking venue situated on the shores of Lake Molveno fronting the Brenta Dolomites, which hosted the inaugural XTERRA Molveno ShortTrack races in October, is the perfect destination for off-road racers and their families looking for a gorgeous holiday getaway.
“It is a real honor for us to host such a great international event,” said Luca D’Angelo, the Dolomiti Paganella Tourism Board Managing Director. “We are really excited to organize another epic race, after the first international XTERRA ShortTrack events in 2020, and we are looking forward to sharing this adventure with our mountain community. We really believe our destination could become a favorite hotspot for professional and amateur endurance athletes with our stunning Dolomites landscape, great tourism facilities, and wide range of outdoor experiences for the entire family.”
The event will be held in cooperation with Europe Triathlon and the Italian Triathlon Federation.
“The municipalities of Molveno and Andalo in the heart of Brenda Dolomites are the perfect location for off-road duathlon and triathlon racing. It’s a paradise for the outdoor enthusiast and offers the perfect infrastructure,” said Renato Bertrandi, the president of Europe Triathlon. “I am delighted the 2021 European Champs of Cross Triathlon and Duathlon have been assigned to XTERRA. Europe Triathlon has for many years enjoyed good collaborations with other professional organizers and we are happy to start this new experience with XTERRA.”
Konstantinos Koumargialis, the marketing director for XTERRA Europe, shared Bertrandi’s enthusiasm for the partnership.
“XTERRA Europe is delighted to join forces with Europe Triathlon to host the 2021 Cross Triathlon and Cross Duathlon Championships in conjunction with XTERRA Trentino-Dolomiti Paganella,” said Koumargialis. “With their support, the backing of Trentino and the Dolomiti Paganella regions, and the cooperation with the Italian Triathlon Federation, we’ll work together to produce a magnificent event weekend that will help grow the sport we all love.”

Li, Tang win inaugural XTERRA Taihu Trail 50K
Jiajia Li and Jingyan “Leti” Tang of China captured the inaugural XTERRA Taihu Trail 50K trail races at the Taihu National Tourism Vacation Zone in Suzhou on Sunday, November 15, 2020 with winning times of 4:50:02 and 5:50:15, respectively.
The 50K race, which routed through Yuyang Mountain and Guangfu scenic spots surrounding the famous Taihu Lake, boasted more than 2,100-meters of elevation gain and awarded two International Trail Running Association (ITRA) points.
Chinese Paralympian and XTERRA standout Jiachao Wang placed second in the men’s 50K race, followed by Weiming Fu, while Huiru Zhuang and Fen Li placed second and third in the women’s race.
In the 30K race, which awarded one ITRA point, Fei Li took the tape in 2:50:45, with Hsinshan Le in second and Chang Liu in third. Xing Wu won the women’s race in 3:57:42, followed by Ling Lin and Chuanli Zhang in second and third.’
More than 1,000 trail runners took part in the inaugural XTERRA Taihu events, which also included 5K and 10K trail runs. The events were just one part of a “green weekend” to celebrate and honor the XTERRA China running community who successfully completed a six-month “X-plogging” sustainability initiative.
“XTERRA is a brand of health, good lifestyle, and environmental sustainability,” said XTERRA China general manager, Joffie Qiao. “We hope this way we could see more people involved in this sport, promote more awareness of our concept.”
The XTERRA China team hosted additional sustainability initiatives over the weekend including plogging events around the Taihu National Tourism Vacation Zone, they donated $2,000 USD to the China Green Foundation to plant one tree for every athlete who participated, and provided reusable cups for participants.
“What impressed me the most with this event was the emphasis on environmental preservation, from the racing bags to small details implemented during the race to protect our nature,” said participant Huang Zhi Shan, an X-Plogging Ambassador. “It was not entirely a sporting competition; it was more of a joyful union of like-minded people.”
