Pittsburgh Area Corporate Employees Participate in the First-Ever Explore Your Parks Adventure
November 20, 2020
P3R and Allegheny County Parks created a first-of-its-kind adventure to inspire Pittsburgh’s professionals as well as the FedEx Corporate Challenge Participants to move throughout the month of October
PITTSBURGH, PA (November 20, 2020) – The first annual Explore Your Parks Challenge, spanning throughout the month of October, inspired local corporate employees participating in the FedEx Corporate Challenge to explore the nine Allegheny County Parks; Boyce Park, Deer Lakes Park, Harrison Hills Park, Hartwood Acres Park, North Park, Round Hill Park, Settlers Cabin Park, South Park and White Oak Park.
“October was a beautiful month for this fun outdoor challenge,” said Vice President, Operations Support and Engineering at FedEx Ground and FedEx Corporate Challenge participant, Bob Pudlo. “The Explore Your Parks Adventure encouraged me to travel outside of my home parks and explore new ones in the Pittsburgh area! With COVID restrictions, the motivation to be active for three miles at each park was everything I needed.”
This challenge encouraged Pittsburgh professionals to head outside and cover three miles in all nine parks, whether biking, walking or running. Participants helped raise $3,100 for Allegheny County Parks that will go directly toward the Allegheny County Parks Foundation’s tree fund to support the planting and maintaining of new trees within the nine parks.
“As County Executive, I’ve had the opportunity to see more of our nine county parks than the average resident,” said County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. “Thanks to this partnership between P3R and the Parks Foundation, there is plenty of reason for all of our residents to take the opportunity to explore the 12,000 acres and learn about our county parks.”
This brand new, self guided challenge not only inspired corporate wellness, but it also allowed families to participate alongside each other. No matter what age, family members were able to discover new outdoor favorite spots together.
“It was incredible to see so many people getting outside and discovering everything the local parks have to offer,” said Allegheny County Parks Foundation Executive Director, Caren Glotfelty. “The donations made to the Allegheny County Parks Foundation Tree Fund will directly go towards reforestation and beautification efforts in our nine Allegheny County parks.”
