XTERRA VR Introduces Speed Challenge with new Trail Blaze Races

The first-ever XTERRA Trail Blaze VR Trail Runs will be held over five days - Thursday, September 10 to Monday, September 14, 2020. Entry is free and features a runners’ choice of 5K, 10K, or 21K distances for individuals and a “5x5K” option for relay teams with 2- 5 members.

Honolulu, HI (September 9, 2020) – The first-ever XTERRA Trail Blaze VR Trail Runs will be held over five days – Thursday, September 10 to Monday, September 14, 2020.

Entry is free and features a runners’ choice of 5K, 10K, or 21K distances for individuals and a “5x5K” option for relay teams with 2- 5 members.

“Seek speed is the theme for this one,” said XTERRA President Janet Clark, orchestrator for the eight-race XTERRA VR Series.  “We want runners to shake off the cobwebs from the coronavirus lockdowns and ignite their passion for running again.”

The all-new Trail Blaze “5x5k” relay race format in which up to five team members each run a 5K and times are combined for a total of 25k, is an idea Clark envisions transitioning to in-person XTERRA events in the near future.

“We really love the 5×5 concept to create a connection with a discipline that has long been viewed as a solo pursuit,” said Clark.  “I’d like to see our XTERRA Family spark a challenge within their family, friends or neighbors, to join forces for the 5×5 and experience the joy of running and friendly competition as a community.  The after-party’s are always so much better when it’s a group effort.”

XTERRA will recognize the top 25 in each race – 5K, 10K and 21K men and women, and overall 5×5 relay through leaderboards updated as results are posted and authenticated. Final results will be published on September 15.

VR participants receive a personalized digital XTERRA Passport to collect commemorative stamps from each race and display on their Instagram or Facebook stories.
