5km of Pure Fun: Challenge Women Virtual Run powered by GARMIN – 4/5 July 2020

Each July, 2,000 women of all ages and nationalities line up for the 5km Challenge Women run in the lead up to the world’s largest long distance triathlon, DATEV Challenge Roth in Bavaria, Germany.

This year, while the event can no longer take place in Roth due to COVID-19, that’s not stopping event organisers, fiedler concepts GmbH, giving women around the world a chance to get together to run, walk, laugh and have fun in the global Challenge Women Virtual Run powered by GARMIN on 4/5 July 2020.

Women have 24 hours to complete the 5km from 10:00am CET on Saturday 4 July. Those in the European time zone can take advantage of the pre-event warm up via Zoom before hitting their favourite 5km track.

The live timing tracker is carried out using an app designed by Mika:timing especially for the event, which can be downloaded to iPhone and Android phones. Spectators and fans can also download the app free of charge to virtually support their friends as they run.

“The virtual run is supported by many international athletes and ambassadors who will run themselves such as Nicole Leder (DEU), Daniela Bleymehl (DEU), Belinda Granger (AUS), Laura Siddall (GBR) and Michelle Vesterby (DEN), to name just a few,” said organiser, Moni Fiedler.

The virtual experience can also be followed through social media with live commentary slots. Participants are encouraged to share pictures of their most beautiful running or walking moments. On Sunday at 12 noon CET there will be an award ceremony, which not only honours the fastest runners but also the most beautiful snapshots. There will also be a special category for all GARMIN users with great prizes from GARMIN.

At registration, participants can choose between two packages. A virtual starter package for 10 Euro, which includes a start number, certificate, virtual goody bag, Spotify playlist or an actual physical package for 20 Euro with special goodies from selected partners, the 2020 medal, a printed start number and, on request, a souvenir t-shirt.
