RAM Racing’s Allstate Hot Chocolate 15K/5K Surpasses One-Million-Dollar Fundraising Goal for Make-A-Wish®

Races turn virtual and exceed expectations in spite of social distancing

CHICAGO, May 12, 2020 – RAM Racing’s Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k/5k race series, which is in more than 22 markets across the U.S. and Mexico, has exceeded expectations and surpassed their fundraising goal of $1 million for their national charity partner, Make-A-Wish.

Just one month ago, when social distancing required RAM to rethink their race events, the goal of raising $1 million seemed highly unlikely, but with the nimble transition to virtual Allstate Hot Chocolate events, RAM and its runners successfully surpassed the milestone. While the ability for Make-A-Wish to continue to fundraise on-site at the events has been eliminated, RAM and its loyal running family have stepped up to the challenge.

“With the COVID-19 interference, we had to rely on our virtual events to get us across the fundraising finish line,” said RAM’s founder, Steve Ginsburg. “The generosity and resilience of the running community proved to be stronger than the pandemic.”

RAM Racing quickly pivoted its race structure and strategy to the virtual event model where runners were given the same incentives or more as the normal events, including additional goodies, chocolate, scoring the virtual event and even results and photos like they would have at a traditional event. RAM Racing is also working to add more features for future virtual events – all of these actions help ensure they are also successful in fundraising for Make-A-Wish.

For the past three Allstate Hot Chocolate seasons, RAM Racing has supported Make-A-Wish in granting life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. As a result of the current health crisis, there are more wishes waiting to be granted than at any other time in the organization’s 40-year history. Now more than ever, Make-A-Wish relies on sponsors like RAM and their event participants to raise the funds necessary to deliver hope to children and their families when they need it most.
