California International Marathon Announces New Registration Protection Policy

With uncertainty surrounding large event cancellations, CIM race organizers address COVID-19 concerns
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The California International Marathon, set to run from Folsom to the California State Capitol on December 6, 2020, has added a new “worry free” registration policy amidst COVID-19 concerns.
If the 2020 CIM is unable to be conducted for any reason related to the COVID-19 public health crisis, all 2020 CIM registrants will receive a one-time voucher that will allow them to register for free for any one future CIM through 2023.
“We understand the anxieties and apprehensions surrounding the uncertainty of the staging of large public events scheduled for the coming months. CIM is an important civic amenity to our community and an important event to the larger endurance sports industry. We want to do all that we can to make the event happen for the people that are counting on it, but also be versatile and malleable to be able to hit moving targets as they relate to changing public health guidelines to ensure the safety of our community,” said Sacramento Running Association Executive Director Scott Abbott.
The new “worry free” policy provides reassurance to registrants, while CIM race organizers continue to work closely with local health and public safety officials to ensure a safe event for all involved.
Additionally, race organizers have worked with city officials and public safety partners to safely increase space for an additional 500 participants if necessary to meet a potential increase in demand and ability to accommodate runners affected by other race cancellations.
“Ultimately, ‘worry free’ registration allows us to move forward and plan for this year’s event to create as safe an event as possible and allows our participants peace of mind in knowing that if it is safe to do so, the event will be run, and if it is not, they will be able to come back without penalty when it is safe to do so,” added Abbott.
The Sacramento Running Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding ways to encourage people of all ages and abilities to run. The SRA is committed to developing new, quality running events that appeal to a broad variety of runners.
