PeopleForBikes Announces 2021 Membership Dues Increase
February 19, 2020
Boulder, CO (Feb. 20, 2020) — Following last year’s merger with the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association (BPSA), the PeopleForBikes Coalition (PFBC) will enact its first membership dues increase in eight years, effective January 1, 2021. PFBC is supported primarily by membership dues, and this increase is essential to back the dynamic mix of programs that inspire people to bike, build safe places to ride and help bike businesses thrive.
Beginning January 1, 2021, PFBC members will pay $1,250 per $1 million in U.S. bicycle related sales — 1/8th of 1% of annual sales revenue — an increase from $1,000 per $1 million that has been in place since 2013. This new membership dues process will be streamlined: PFBC will no longer request or collect BPSA membership dues or contributions to the industry’s e-bike fund. This will reduce the net effect of the dues increase for many supporters.
No member will pay less in 2021 than 2020 (unless their sales have decreased) and minimum annual membership dues will be set at $1,000 (up from the current $500 minimum). This dues increase is part of a well-orchestrated merger plan that was developed in cooperation with key industry leaders and partners.
Thanks to dues paid by coalition members in 2019, PeopleForBikes was able to make significant gains for the bike industry. Those included successfully lobbying for more than $120 million in tariff exclusions on bike products, convincing government leaders to invest more than $2.5 billion in building safe bike infrastructure, dramatically improving nationwide e-bike access on and off-road and developing programs to improve youth bicycling participation and retention.
PeopleForBikes is dedicated to creating better bike riding for all and boosting bike businesses nationwide. The support of coalition members is crucial in continuing that mission. PeopleForBikes’ 24 staff professionals and 80 industry committee volunteers are focused on helping coalition member companies succeed.
