UCAN Sets Course for How Olympic Marathon Hopefuls Train for the 2020 Trials

More than 50 Runners Fuel Using UCAN’s SuperStarch® Products to Gain Competitive Edge
WOODBRIDGE, Conn. – UCAN is setting the course for how runners are training and competing in this year’s Olympic Marathon Trials, which is expected to draw more participation than ever. More than 50 Olympic Marathon hopefuls, such as Dathan Ritzenhein, Sarah Sellers and Taylor Ward, fuel their training with UCAN’s SuperStarch, a complex carbohydrate that delivers long-lasting and steady energy without sugar spikes or crashes.
Team UCAN’s Olympic Trials qualifiers represent 15 states and these athletes come from a diverse range of running backgrounds – from professional runners, to school teachers, nurses, engineers and a wide range of other full-time careers. With the field of marathoners getting more competitive each year, athletes are looking for new and innovative ways to up their game and performance.
One of those ways is through nutrition and the use of UCAN’s SuperStarch, which is scientifically proven to provide a slow drip of glucose into the body to manage blood sugar levels, the key to peak performance and reducing fatigue. Compared to sugar-based sports nutrition drinks, bars and gels that overwhelm the body with surges in sugar, leading to sudden energy crashes, SuperStarch maintains stable blood glucose levels that allows athletes to unlock their full potential with sustained energy.
UCAN is recognized as a key product for nutritional and performance success by many sports dietitians, including Bob Seebohar, MS, RD, CSSD, CSCS, 2008 U.S. Olympic Sports Dietitian.
“UCAN is modernizing the way athletes, especially endurance athletes like runners, fuel and recover,” says Seebohar. “Gone are the days of fueling solely with simple sugar-based products. With UCAN’s SuperStarch, the athlete can work upwards of 90 minutes without refueling, because of how SuperStarch stabilizes blood sugar levels, positively impacting the athletes’ energy levels.”
This year’s field topped 750 qualified athletes, including 511 women and 260 men. By comparison, 246 women and 211 men qualified for the 2016 Trials in Los Angeles.
“The Olympic Marathon Trials continue to grow in number every year, and we are excited to be the sports nutrition product of choice for more than 50 individuals in this year’s Trials,” says Shoba Murali, CEO of UCAN. “In a changing world where people from the rookie runner to pro athlete look for products to help them achieve personal and professional fitness goals, UCAN aligns with these goals, offering sports nutrition products that deliver performance without compromising long-term health.”
The 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials will be held in Atlanta on Saturday, February 29, 2020, as a part of America’s Marathon Weekend. The top three women and top three men will be selected to represent Team U.S.A. and will compete in the Olympic Marathon in Tokyo in August.
