Development racing program expands with addition of San Diego Velodrome to schedule
February 12, 2020, Carson, CA – The Foundation for American Track Cycling today announced the 2020 race schedule for the Juniors Rule! series and SoCal Madison Cup in partnership with the Los Angeles Velodrome Racing Association (LAVRA). 2020 marks the fifth year of the development racing series at the Velo Sports Center velodrome in Carson, California and this year expands to include a race date at the San Diego Velodrome with both Omnium and Madison formats.
The Foundation’s Managing Director Bob Francis said “2020 will be the best yet as we again partner with LAVRA to deliver a program designed to help young track cyclists develop their skills and compete in a fun, safe environment. Our program brings together an incredible group of coaches, officials, and program administrators who share a common goal- more kids on bikes. We are also bringing back the SoCal Madison Cup as part of the series which will include a Juniors race as well as an Open race for Elite and Masters riders.”

- March 21, Velo Sports Center, Juniors Rule! Omnium and SoCal Madison Cup
- May 2, Velo Sports Center, Juniors Rule! Omnium and SoCal Madison Cup #2
- May 23, Velo Sports Center, Juniors Rule! Omnium and SoCal Madison Cup #3

“Programs like Juniors Rule! play an important role in helping develop our current junior riders as well as introducing new young riders to the sport of track cycling. Because velodromes are typically located in urban areas, these types of outreach programs can create a huge impact on kids from underserved communities. We are thrilled to partner with the Foundation for American Track Cycling and look forward to supporting their efforts to introduce a new generation of riders to the sport,” said Liz Kollar, USA Cycling Director of Youth and Collegiate Development.
Over the years the series has provided valuable racing experience for an impressive list of alumni who are now competing on the international stage. “As a junior female track cyclist who is now part of the USA Cycling Olympic Development Program and on the Lux Cycling Team, I am so thankful for the programs provided by the Foundation for American Track Cycling. Juniors Rule! Omniums and Madison racing had such a positive impact on my own personal development and on the sport,” said Kayla Hankins of Arizona.
Junior Madison World Champion Zoe Ta-Perez of California said “Four years ago, the Foundation for American Track Cycling partnered with LAVRA on the creation of the Juniors Rule! series at our local track. This program has impacted many of our USA junior riders because it provided a fun and positive racing environment. Although the transition to European racing can be tough, FATC’s support of the track series has been a vital step for me to race competitively in the international junior ranks.”
