Since its inception, the IRONMAN Lake Placid triathlon has captured the hearts and minds of athletes, spectators, and the local community. Nestled amidst the stunning Adirondack Mountains and surrounded by an outdoor lover’s paradise, the event became the first IRONMAN branded event in the continental United States and only the second in North America, behind the IRONMAN Canada triathlon, when it was introduced in 1999. Over the past 25 years, the IRONMAN Lake Placid triathlon has witnessed countless inspiring stories, personal triumphs, and life-changing moments that continue to inspire generations of athletes.
The iconic 2024 Athletic Brewing IRONMAN® Lake Placid triathlon course begins with a 2.4-mile swim in beautiful Mirror Lake. Then a two-loop 112-mile bike course through the Adirondacks, featuring a long descent down to the village of Keene and finishing with an 11-mile climb through the Wilmington Notch taking athletes past Whiteface Mountain. The two-loop run course takes athletes past the Horse Show Grounds and the Olympic Ski Jumps before following scenic River Road and the challenging climb back into town. The race culminates with an unforgettable finish line experience on the legendary Olympic Oval used in the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics.
For the 25th anniversary in 2024, the event will feature special festivities throughout race week, including a welcome ceremony honoring past champions, a captivating expo showcasing the latest advancements in triathlon gear and nutrition, and engaging community events that bring together athletes, families, and residents alike. The 2024 Athletic Brewing IRONMAN® Lake Placid triathlon will be more than a race; it will be an immersive experience that celebrates the indomitable human spirit and the legacy of 25 years of endurance sports excellence.
