2020 CapTex Tri Invites All to Participate in Free Virtual Triathlon
May 15, 2020
AUSTIN, TX, May 15, 2020 — CapTex Tri presented by Life Time is going virtual for 2020 and athletes everywhere can participate for free. This year, the virtual-only options will replace the canceled event, scheduled for Memorial Day. With the free virtual option, participants can register for the Sprint or Olympic distance triathlon or duathlon. In addition to putting all that training to good use, everyone will receive a downloadable personalized bib, finisher certificate, and digital finisher medal. Registration is open through Monday, May 25th.
“Even though I’m saddened to not soak up the energy that comes from being at CapTex Tri, the virtual option creates the opportunity for everyone to create their own race-day energy,” said Dane Shaw, who finished 1st in the 35-39 age group at the 2019 CapTex Tri. “I’m excited for the challenge and ready to push myself along with everyone else.”
Event distances include:
- Sprint triathlon – 750m swim, 12.3-mile bike, 5K run
- Sprint duathlon – 2-mile run, 12.3-mile bike, 5K run
- Olympic triathlon – 1500m swim, 24.3-mile bike, 10K run
- Olympic duathlon – 4-mile run, 24.3-mile bike, 10K run
This event is free and open to the public and participants are encouraged to challenge their friends and family. With the virtual options, participants can complete their event all at once or finish each segment on their own schedule. Swimming/running, cycling, and running can take place on different days in different locations. Results must be submitted by May 29th.
“CapTex Tri is one of my favorite races of the season; the crowds downtown, the course, and the Austin skyline in the background make for an incredible experience,” said Pablo Gomez, who finished 3rd overall at the 2019 CapTex Tri. “Things may have changed this year, but I am still very pumped to push myself in the Virtual CapTex Tri with the amazing memories of prior years and the visualization of years to come!”
Austin’s only downtown triathlon was canceled as a result of mandates from local and state governments. All registered participants were allowed to transfer to another High Five Events triathlon or receive a full refund in addition to participating in the virtual option of their choice.
