12th annual Northshore Half Marathon and 10-miler return to St. Tammany Sunday
October 4, 2021
BATON ROUGE, La. – The 12th annual Northshore Half Marathon and 10-miler return to St. Tammany on Sunday, Oct. 10 as one of the first events the parish will host since Hurricane Ida made landfall in August.
Over 800 participants from 14 different states will flock to the historic streets of Old Mandeville this weekend. Founded in 2010, the Northshore Half Marathon and 10-miler is the largest running event in St. Tammany Parish. Its return despite the impacts of Hurricane Ida shows the strength of the community.
“While we have taken great strides to get our Parish back to normal, you may notice some of the damage that Ida left behind,” said Mike Cooper, St. Tammany Parish President. “Take a moment to soak in all that our home Parish has to offer…There is something for every family to experience here in St. Tammany Parish and we hope that you and your family have time to fall in love with our home Parish.”
“The resiliency of the area will be evident as you run through the city,” said Patrick O’Brien, Race Director for the event. “While you are here, visit a local business, thank a volunteer, or give a police officer a high five to show your appreciation in these challenging times for our state.”
Hurricane Ida left its mark on the Northshore taking down trees and power lines throughout Fontainebleau State Park and Old Mandeville. Runners will still enjoy the scenic view along Lakeshore Drive, tree-lined West Beach Blvd, and start/finish in Fontainebleau State Park, but minor revisions to the course can be found here.
Runners are strongly encouraged to pick up their race packet prior to race day, but pickup will be still available on race morning near the Start Line from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. The race starts at 7:00 a.m. and is followed by a post-race party on the Lake Pontchartrain waterfront complete with great food, beer, and music provided by Boogie Long.
