Panel comprised of the Boston Athletic Association, Runner’s World and world-class marathoners to review stories of strength and perseverance and select four Stronger Together Ambassadors
Florham Park, NJ (September 11, 2013) — PowerBar today announced the Stronger Together Search, designed to provide an online forum for athletes to share their personal stories of strength for Boston while entering for a chance to win one of four official entries to the 2014 Boston Marathon®. Athletes across the U.S. who have a valid qualification performance but do not gain entry into the 2014 Boston Marathon, are invited to visit www.facebook.com/PowerBar from September 23 through October 27 to enter the search and join the ongoing movement of support for Boston.
Approaching its 18th consecutive year as a proud Boston Marathon® sponsor, PowerBar will recognize the perseverance of four award winners (Stronger Together Ambassadors) and provide them with the opportunity to take part in the 118th running of the race. “On behalf of the entire PowerBar team, our thoughts continue to be with the victims and family members whose lives were forever changed by the Boston Marathon tragedy this year,” said Frank Jimenez, Global Business Head for PowerBar. “We’ll grant four inspirational runners the opportunity to cross the finish line on Boylston Street on April 21, 2014. These four athletes will join the anticipated record number of marathoners that day who vow to run to show the character and perseverance of the running community and their desire to help Boston be stronger together.”
After the athlete entry period, everyone can participate in the Stronger Together Search to show support for Boston by voting for their favorite athlete submission from November 1 until November 10. The voting process by the general public in November will determine the top 10 athlete entries. To help identify the four award winning Stronger Together ambassadors, PowerBar has teamed up with an impressive roster of judges from the running community, including:
- Josh Cox — 50k American record holder
- Tom Grilk — Boston Athletic Association Executive Director
- Meb Keflezighi — Olympic Marathon Silver Medalist and 2009 New York City Marathon Winner
- Sarah Reinertsen — Paralympian, Nike and Challenged Athletes Foundation Athlete
- Bart Yasso — Runner’s World Chief Running Officer
Athletes who have a valid Boston Athletic Association’s 2014 qualification performance but do not gain entry into the 2014 Boston Marathon can visit www.facebook.com/PowerBar from September 23 through October 27 to enter the Stronger Together search. To participate, runners will be asked to share one simple word to define their desire to run for Boston, followed by a brief story and image describing why they hope to participate in this historic event. Four Stronger Together Ambassadors will be awarded official entry into the 2014 Boston Marathon, along with travel and hotel accommodations, the BAA’s VIP race day experience and a personalized training plan from a PowerBar® Team Elite™ athlete. No purchase is necessary to participate or win.
“Runners in B.A.A. races have long enjoyed the benefits of our partnership with PowerBar, and we as an organization have long enjoyed working with PowerBar on creative promotions such as the Stronger Together search,” said Tom Grilk, Executive Director of the B.A.A. “PowerBar’s commitment to our sport, our race, and every runner’s pursuit of excellence is commendable and something of which we are greatly appreciative.”
