The Spa City 6-Hour Mountain Bike Endurance Race Nearing Capacity
Mountain bike racing in Arkansas will kick off again with the 2013 season opener on March 16 in Hot Springs. The Spa City 6-Hour Endurance Mountain Bike Race is as the name suggests, a six-hour endurance ride within Cedar Glades Park. The morning will start with a 250 yard Lemans-style start, followed by a one mile start loop. The course is a 10.2 mile loop of 90% single track. Top-level riders will make 7 laps within the allotted time. The day will be capped off with a baked potato and chili meal along with the awards ceremony in the amphitheater.
A few notable past winners of this event are as follows: Tinker Juarez–past World Champion and Olympian; Manuel Prado—Winner of the 2009 La Ruta and third place in the Leadville 100; Pua Mata—US Marathon National Champion 2012, Pro XCT Champion 2012, La Ruta 2012 Winner; Rebecca Rusch—Former 24 Hour World Champion and four-time Leadville 100 winner.
Hot Springs is a welcoming location for those looking to step into springtime early with the average temperature between 43°F and 65°F, abundant sunshine, warm friendly people and plenty to do outside of riding—Hot Springs National Park and the boyhood home of a United States President, just to name a few.
The Spa City 6-Hour is the opening race of the Arkansas MTB Marathon Series (AMMS), and is sponsored by USA Cycling, Hammer Nutrition, The Ride, Parkside Cycle, and Ouachita River Mountain Outfitters. The AMMS also includes the Ouachita Challenge, the Slobberknocker, and Syllamo’s Revenge to be held later in the year.
The field is capped at 250 racers and the field is filling up quickly! Register for this event at DLTevents.com. For more information or to volunteer at this event, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
